Can you move your chats from one to the other?
Into Gemini, yes. It imports what ChatGPT remembers about you and your full ChatGPT chat export, as Google's page on importing from other AI platforms explains. The feature is not available in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK.
Into ChatGPT, we found no import tool for Gemini chats or memory on OpenAI's help pages. Copy what you need yourself and ask ChatGPT to remember it. Every direction is covered in the guide to moving memory between AI tools.
Which should you choose for your work?
- If your mail and files live in Google, Gemini can draw on the Google apps you connect to it.
- If you want to see what the tool remembers about you and correct it by hand, ChatGPT shows it as a summary you can edit.
- If you want your chats kept out of training with memory still on, ChatGPT treats those as two settings; in Gemini both hang on Keep Activity.
- If you are moving over from ChatGPT, Gemini can import your old chats. The reverse is not available.
For writing and analysis, try both on a real task from your work; results change with every release.

Is Gemini memory better than ChatGPT memory?
They work differently. ChatGPT shows what it remembers for you to edit and can keep projects apart; Gemini draws on your chats and connected Google apps, and you remove what it knows by deleting chats. All three main tools are compared in which AI remembers your work best.

Can I use both with the same memory?
